SGR — the Romanian deposit-return system
SGR is the Romanian national system for collecting and returning reusable packaging (PET, glass, aluminium) for products placed on the market. Companies placing beverages on the market in packaging between 0.1 and 3 litres must register in the system and meet the traceability and labelling requirements set by law.

Legislative obligations
- All producers and importers of beverages packaged between 0.1 and 3 litres must take part in SGR
- Since 30 November 2023, all eligible packaging must carry the correct marking
- Registration on the RetuRO platform is mandatory
- Failing to meet the requirements can attract fines between RON 20,000 and 40,000
